The Cat's Out Of The Bag

So, I finally got my sister Ruby to talk to me. Well, what a shock I got! Turns out that the "big thighs" thingy wasn't really the issue. My sister is depressed because she thinks her husband, Frank, is having an affair!

Frank has been friends, against my sister's wishes, with this woman, Miss X, who has a reputation of being a "man-eater". Why he clings to this woman is anyone's guess. He says she is "just a good friend".  Well, after he came back from abroad, we all thought that was the end of THAT, but it turns out they were still texting each other in secret. Now, WHY would a married man have a strong friendship with a woman behind his wife's back?  Anyway, this last weekend, Miss X was in town and on Monday Frank begged Ruby to go out and meet her. Ruby says she agreed, as she thought it was the wifely thing to do. Apparently they were in a big group, and drinks were flowing like mad. Strangely enough, when it came to paying the bill, Rubyr got lumped with it. Why? I don't know. So she had to bend some plastic, which is NEVER a good idea! So, it was then that the "shouting above everybody else" thing came into play, and Ruby and Frank dived into a foul mood. So, the next day, while Ruby  was at work, Frank met Miss X, supposedly in a group again, for more drinks, and he didn't bother to tell his wife! THEN, today, AGAIN, he went to meet his woman friend while Ruby was at work. Ruby says she had a weird feeling something was wrong and decided to phone Frank at home. Getting no answer, she rang him on his mobile. He happened to be in town with his friend, Miss X, but lied that he was at home watching telly!  Ruby herself then lied and said she was outside the door and wanted him to open it for her, as she didn't have the keys. It was then that he confessed he was in town, with his lady friend. Well, the rest is obvious. Now she is convinced he is having an affair and things are really tense between them.  Somehow I am glad I was not there on Monday. I wouldn't have wanted to be embroiled in such a situation. All I said they need to talk. I can't say anything else, can I?

You know, sometimes you think someone is the best thing that ever happened to you, until something like this happens. Why can't love be simple, black and white with no grey areas. Is it ok for a married man to have a "platonic" female friend whom his wife doesn't like? If it purely platonic, why should be done in secret? I asked Frank what he would have done if he were in her shoes. Would it be ok for her to go out with other men without telling him?
